Why do we need urban green areas?

Climate change mitigation
and adaptation to its effects in Wyszków

The project "Mitigating climate change and adapting to its effects in Wyszków" uses co-financing worth 5 million PLN, received from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway as part of the EEA funds. The aim of the project is to increase the ability of local communities to reduce emissions and adapt to climate change.

Another topic of the educational campaign carried out under the project "Mitigating climate change and adapting to its effects in Wyszków".

• determines the proper functioning of cities in terms of climatology, hydrology and ecology,

• can have a significant impact on the mitigation of so called „urban heat Island” effect,

• green areas are the best way to mitigate the undesirable effects of heavy rainfall,

• vegetation helps deadense noise,

• plants act as green air filters in an urbanized environment.

A really important elements of the green infrastructure of cities are smaller facilities, such as: pocket parks, green roofs, green walls and vertical gardens, rain gardens in containers, green yards, individual trees and tracks.
